Decidedly longer days, gentle evening breezes and beautiful balmy nights
Star encrusted skies, sparkling jewels competing with city lights
Temperatures rising, everyone seeking shelter from the heat
Some head for an ocean dip whilst others take leisurely walks down tree lined streets
Its officially cricket season from five day test matches to one day internationals
Baggy greens, leg-before-wicket, run outs, a game whose appeal is multigenerational
The Southern Hemisphere’s thinner ozone layer and increased UV radiation
Has us Aussies slip, slop, slapping many layers of sunscreen lotion
Workplaces close briefly over Christmas and families heads off on vacation
Swimming, crabbing, prawning and fishing recreational activities unfold with much elation
We see surfing Santas, fake snow on Christmas trees, bathing suits, shorts and flip flops
Christmas fare comprises crayfish, prawns, summer salads, sausages, all washed down with a selection of cold drops
Citronella candles and Mortein used as we try in vain to dodge those pesky flies and roaches
As it gets hotter we protect ourselves from venomous snakes’ approaches
Those who are ocean bound watch out for stinging jellyfish, barbs of stingray, sharks and poisonous fish
In the Northern parts of Australia we have to take measures to avoid becoming a crocodile’s dish
The weather ranges from hot days to cool days with scattered thunderstorms and even cyclones
Disrupting the plans of sailors, fishermen, surfers, jet skiers and operators of drones
The season’s highs and even the lows all make for an exciting and interesting time of year
We wouldn’t have it any other way once our glorious Aussie Summer is here!
