Photographs

I am looking at old enigmatic family photographs, some black and white and some color

Wherein time has stood still, moments of yesteryears captured forever

Some are of gatherings – weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations

Others of couples, children, babies and individuals in various flashes of contemplations

Some spark memories of joyful family times, one’s, I would happily revisit

Other photos evoke feelings and thoughts which I forever to the past commit

I flick through photos of parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and siblings,

of fur babies, friends, neighbors, children – a reminder that whilst growing up my life had an abundance of blessings

I wonder who took each snap, and what prompted each composition

I try to imagine the person behind the lens, and to uncover their motivation

Were the photographers invited guests, family members or engaged professionals

What cameras did they use as lights flashed and fingers clicked to record their amateur models

No sooner had I slipped into a reverie about these souvenirs, that have captured images of times past

When my phone buzzes, jolting me into returning to the present moment real fast

I check an incoming message and smile as the irony is not lost on me

The message contained a digital photo sent to me by my mother to see! 😂📸
